Listserv complaints

So the listserv is awful and it has cluttered your inbox, subjected you to various and sundry offensive points of view, and has turned into a dingo and eaten your child (no I'm not sure how the last one works either.) Want to complain about it, or maybe... possibly... even make a suggestion. I have provided the cheese, now you provide the whine - have at it.

My thoughts on the subject, for what they are worth are as follows: UNM Sustain (or the UNM Campus Sustainability Forum by its proper title) was conceived to be a hub which would work to channel the creative efforts of the many groups and individuals around campus working to make our corner of the world a little better. We do have our own agenda and work on projects we decide on, but I feel it is important to also hold our role as an intermediary organization as well. I understand that the listserv gets cluttered with inappropriate emails, I apologize and am doing my best to curb that. To my way of thinking, part of sustainability is an organic process of getting community input. While any one person may not agree with the views another person is expressing, we allow them that right in the understanding that we will be granted the same right. So long as everyone respects this power, I would not be upset at having a few emails that did not apply to me or did not involve a cause I supported. I speak for no one else when I say this, but it is in this spirit and role that I have seen the listserv. I will open this up for debate and possibly a vote to the community to close the listserv to administrators so that we become funnels and filters of the information. The ball is in your court now...

I think you should close it. We've told everyone so many times, but it is too easy to hit reply. And I've gotten angry emails complaining that the list is "spamming" them, usually from people who aren't involved anyway and would see it as spam.
I've done it before.. it's obnoxious. If you can decide what goes out on the listserv and perhaps send friendly reminders to people who meant to just write to one person, than i think it will be for the best. Maybe it'll be a lot of extra work, but hopefully that will decrease over time.
